Spotlight Initiative in Uganda Annual Report 2020
In Uganda, the particular focus in on eliminating sexual and gender-based violence (GBV) and harmful practices of child marriage and female genital mutilation, as well the linkages between GBV and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and the linkages between GBV and violence against children more broadly. The Initiative is a multi-stakeholder programme implemented by eight UN agencies (UN Women, UNICEF, UNFPA, UNDP, UNHCR, IOM and Pulse Lab) and entities, more than 20 Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies, six District Local Governments, and over 30 civil society organizations, the private sector, religious and cultural institutions, and academia in Uganda.
The Spotlight initiative is implemented in 7 districts of Uganda including Amudat, Arua, Kampala, Kasese, Kitgum, Kyegewa and Tororo. The overall aim of Spotlight Initiative (SI) is to achieve gender equality and women’s empowerment, in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Implementation of the SI interventions occurs at national and sub-national levels with active involvement and coordination of Ministries, Departments and Agencies and the respective structures at the sub-national level. Phase 1 started in July 2019 and ends 30th June 2021.
